At Prophet we aligned with Snapfish to reinvent their brand strategy and the major touchpoint for Snapfish is the UX in their web application. They are currently stuck with an outdated framework for their website and before we rebuild it they wanted us to prepare some quick wins for them with their existing code. The goal is to incorporate new branding elements, improve the UX, and build constancy without any significant restructuring of their DOM. I enjoy working within heavy constraints from time to time as it forces me to rethink my approach. With the current Snapfish site the biggest problem is the product consistency. They use a different type of shadow treatment on the products throughout the site which really drags down the quality of the brand. I proposed several solutions, but the key is consistency. The next big win is to incorporate a new hero image treatment. They wanted to get a javascript slider in and I proposed using a masking animation to really tighten up the branding. I hope they go for it over a traditional slide in from the right, as technically they are roughly equal as far as difficulty of implementation. You can see both ideas demoed in the flash window below. Finally their are some big UX wins in the left-hand side bar. I standardized their iconography, added descriptive headers for the sections, and reduced the cognitive overload on the user with an collapsing menu. Take a look at the last image in the slider above to see what I'm talking about.
